On Monday, September 16, 2024, Janelcy Alferes Castano from VITO showcased the AquaSPICE project during the Project Presentations segment at the Water Market Europe (WME) 2024 event, held in Brussels. Her presentation focused on the project Case Study 3 located in the Antwerp area, which faces increasing challenges in managing freshwater resources for drinking, industrial use, and inland shipping.
Janelcy emphasised the work achieved and the need for local stakeholders to develop integrated water-smart strategies that address both water quality and scarcity. These strategies are essential for protecting existing operations while supporting business growth. She highlighted innovative solutions, including water recycling technologies and real-time smart monitoring systems, as key components in tackling these challenges.
The WME2024 event brought together a diverse array of water sector actors, fostering connections and exploring new opportunities for breakthroughs. Notable participants included key European agencies like the European Research Executive Agency (REA), CINEA, and the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA). Anne-Marie Sassen, Head of Unit at EIC EISMEA, opened the event with inspiring remarks, setting the stage for impactful discussions.
