AquaSPICE, an EU-funded Horizon 2020 project, released of its latest Policy Brief: “Standardisation and Interoperability – Leveraging the Benefits of Digitalisation in Industrial Water Systems.”

AquaSPICE brings together 27 partners from 12 countries, striving to advance circular water use in European process industries. The newly published policy brief highlights key recommendations for enhancing digitalisation, fostering interoperability, and driving efficiency in industrial water management.

The policy brief outlines six core recommendations, including:

  • Encouraging the adoption of the Water Efficiency Framework (WEF) for structured industrial water management.
  • Promoting a collaborative approach among stakeholders for knowledge exchange and innovation.
  • Supporting active engagement with standardisation bodies (ETSI, ISO, CEN) to align with emerging industrial standards.
  • Implementing interoperability frameworks like FIWARE for seamless data integration.
  • Integrating the SAREF Ontology to enhance semantic interoperability.

This policy brief supports the EU-wide Action Plan on Digitalisation of the Water Sector, reinforcing the need for smart water management and accelerating the transition to a Water-Smart Society. You can read the full policy brief at this link.
