The Young Water Professionals (YWP) European Conference 2024, held in Copenhagen on June 16-19, gathered over 500 young professionals from across Europe to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and inspiration in the water sector. The event featured technical workshops, soft skills activities, panel discussions, and sessions led by industry experts, all aimed at promoting sustainable water solutions.
A standout presentation of AquaSPICE by Teo, Chuan Jiet from KWR, titled “Industry’s Thirst: Can We Make Water Work in Circles?” highlighted the pressing issue of water consumption in industries and the risks to their water security. AquaSPICE advocated for shifting from the unsustainable “take-make-dispose” model to a circular water management approach, where resource exchange between industries enhances efficiency.
Key points included:
- Water Security Risks: Industries face growing water security risks due to climate change and resource depletion.
- Circular Economy: Promoting water reuse and recycling within and between industries to reduce waste.
- Collaborative Efficiency: Showcasing industrial clusters that have successfully implemented collaborative water-saving strategies.
- Innovative Technologies: Introducing advanced water treatment, real-time monitoring systems, and smart water grids.
The conference inspired participants to explore new ways to achieve sustainable water management, reinforcing YWP’s role in nurturing future leaders committed to driving positive change in the water sector.
